Dragons Extend Winning Streak with 3-0 Victory Over Fairfield

With a record of 5-0, the Dragons are off to their best start in school history
Fairfield, Conn. – Drexel Field Hockey used three second half goals to earn its fifth victory of the season. With a record of 5-0, the Dragons are off to their best start in school history. Fairfield dipped to 2-3 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Drexel offense came alive. Emily Horvat (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) opened the scoring eight minutes into the second stanza with goal off a rebound to put the Dragons on top. Drexel added a pair of insurance goals, both on penalty corners to clinch the victory. At 48:08, Heather Bloemker (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks East) fired a shot from the top of the arc that beat Fairfield goalkeeper Elizabeth Thomas. Horvat and Casey Mouser (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) were both credited with assists. With less than four minutes remaining, senior captain Karie Walton (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) found the back of the cage with a penalty corner shot to record her second goal of the season. Horvat and Mouser each earned her second assist of the game.
Goalie Colleen McAndrew (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) made five saves in earning her first shutout of the season. Thomas made five saves for the Stags. Drexel held the edge in penalty corners, 14-8, including a 10-1 advantage in the decisive second half. For the game Drexel also outshot Fairfield, 17-9, with the Dragons firing 12 second-half shots to the Stags three.
Drexel returns to its home turf on Buckley Field on Wed. Sept. 13 to face Saint Joseph's at 4 p.m.
